We encourage IMPROV acting. What is IMPROV and why use it?

One of the most famous IMPROV lines is when Han Solo (Star Wars) is getting ready to be carbon froze; The director was uncomfortable with the scripted responses. It seemed out of character for the character of Han Solo. So, Harrison Ford obviously knowing  his character IMPROVED his line:

Princes Lea: "I love you"

Han Solo: (IMPROVED) "I know"

PERFECT for that character!

Sometimes the natural reaction to a given situation and character is better than what is scripted, so, with that said.....IMPROV IS VERY ENCOURAGED!

Did you know that in this famous scene in the Goonies; Jeff Cohen (Chunk) in order to cry on que; was thinking about  his parents dying. Awful to think about, yes, but it did the job. Great performance!
